Growing Greener Program Report Featured on May Edition of Harper’s Legislative Report
A recent study of the state’s Growing Greener II environmental protection program conducted by the non-partisan Legislative Budget and Finance Committee is the subject of the May edition of Rep. Kate Harper’s Legislative Report television program.
Voters in 2005 authorized the Commonwealth to borrow $625 million to fund Growing Greener investments in environmental protection, open space and farmland preservation, watershed protection and more. Harper sponsored the resolution calling for the study to determine how the money was invested, how much funding remains and to assess the costs and benefits of the initiative.
Harper’s guest on the 30-minute program is Philip Durgin, executive director of the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee. In addition to the Growing Greener study, the two also discuss the important role the committee plays in conducting studies of state programs and making recommendations to improve government efficiency and effectiveness.
