Harper Announces Safe Schools Grants
HARRISBURG – Rep. Kate Harper (R-Montgomery) today announced three targeted school safety grants have been awarded to schools serving the 61st Legislative District.

Grants of $20,000 each were awarded to North Montco Technical Career Center and the North Penn School District for the purpose of establishing and implementing programs to prevent and reduce violent incidents. The Wissahickon Area School District received a $60,000 grant for training and compensation of school resource officers.

“A quality education is vital to helping our students live up to their potential, but they cannot learn effectively if they do not feel safe in the classroom,” Harper said. “These grants help our schools ensure the safety of our kids.”

Harper noted this grant program is separate from a new $60 million School Safety and Security Grant initiative created by the General Assembly earlier this year. The deadline for schools to apply for those grants, which are being administered by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, is Oct. 12.
